SECO promotes and supports EXCELLENCE in SCIENCE TEACHING and LEARNING SECO was established in 1977, and has continuously promoted the advancement of science education in Ohio. The key to
SECO's effectiveness is its membership. Our members include elementary, middle school, junior high and senior high
teachers. We welcome college-level instructors, administrators, suppliers of science equipment and textbooks, and all
others interested in science.
We invite you to join other science educators to promote science education in Ohio.
SECO Focus Objectives: - Disseminate knowledge concerning current and proposed methods of science instruction and/or implementation of available programs.
- Secure a greater degree of participation in professional activities by science educators at all levels.
- Support and extend the effectiveness of existing programs of youth activities and initiate appropriate youth
programs to meet recognized needs.
SECO Provides: - LEADERSHIP - state chapter of National Science Teachers Association.
- SUPPORT - provides updates and informs members of current issues in science
education on both the state and national level; provides recognition through annual awards; provides
opportunities to share with other professionals; offers mini-grants that encourage science education and
teacher development.
- PROFESSIONAL GROWTH - distributes information, teaching ideas, safety resources,
and other informative resources to encourage and promote innovational and effective teaching and learning;
distributes a newsletter and the Agora, the journal of science education innovations.
- SERVICE - supports and sponsors SECO Saturdays for professional development on the
local and regional levels; conducts the annual SECO Professional Development Conference in February of each
year; serves as the overall source of information related to professional development through the website
www.SECOonline.com; provides opportunity to share successes and learn from other professionals in the field.

Additional Initiatives - Provides the opportunity to attend Annual Professional Development Conference;
- Teams with the National Science Teachers Association to bring national initiatives to Ohio;
- Provides its members with district and state-wide newsletters;
- Provides several SECO Saturday professional development opportunities;
- Coordinates the distribution of the Total Ohio Science Safety System CD that is free to all Ohio middle/junior highs and high schools;
- Supports awards for the State's Science Olympiad and State Science Day;
- Serves as your state chapter of NSTA; and
- Supports a section of the website to list professional development opportunities for the state and nation.
